Load cell systems

Static scales for silos, containers, tanks, and other structures

Weighing systems offer a precise, reliable, and economical solution for weight measurement in industrial applications. They are used wherever silos, tanks, containers, or bunkers need to be weighed—e.g., in dosing, mixing, or loading technology.

Setting up a static weighing system

In most applications, the complete static weighing system consists of:

  • the silo, container, steel structure, etc.
  • three or four mounting modules including the load cells
  • a connection box for load cells, e.g., our intelligent terminal box
  • evaluation electronics, e.g., our Target 260 with display and data transmission

The load cells

The two most important design criteria are the total weight and the number of load cells. These determine the minimum nominal load—the measuring range—that the load cells used must have. In some cases, additional loads such as wind loads, earthquake loads, or shock loads must be taken into account in the total weight.

Another criterion for selecting load cells is the installation location. Outside buildings, higher requirements are placed on protection classes or lift-off protection, for example.

In addition, the purpose for which a measuring system is used determines how the technical solution is designed. The purpose also specifies the functionality that the scale electronics must have.

You can find the right weighing system by entering a few relevant details in our quick check.

If the total weight of the component, silo, tank, etc. is known, you can find the right load cell and further information here:

Silos / Tanks / Bunkers – Outdoor installation – with a total weight

- from 1 t to 25 t

- from 10 t to 300 t

- from 200 t to 1,000 t

Silos / Tanks / Containers – Inside buildings – with a total weight

- from 20 kg to 7,500 kg

- from 1,000 kg to 7,500 kg

- from 10,000 kg to 300,000 kg

Mixers & reactors with a total weight

- from 20 kg to 7,500 kg

- from 4,000 kg to 30,000 kg

Suspended loads with a total weight

- from 20 kg to 20,000 kg

The mounting module, in which the load cell is installed, guarantees precise and reliable measurement results. With the variable hole pattern of the mounting plate, the containers or silos can be screwed directly to the weighing module. High-quality load cells ensure precise weighing results.

The load cell connection box

The cables of the three or four load cells are connected in the junction box designed specifically for load cells. The total signal is generated in the junction box and transmitted via a cable to the load cell evaluation electronics.

The intelligent terminal box from Hense Wägetechnik also monitors each individual load cell.

Different housing designs and materials are determined by the intended use and the environment.

The evaluation unit / scale electronics

Alongside the load cells, the evaluation and control system used is the key component of a weighing system. The main criteria for selecting the right evaluation unit are the function of the scale and its intended use.

We can help you select the optimal evaluation unit. Tailored to your specific requirements and the type and number of load cells connected.

Whether simple weight display, balancing, flow determination, belt scale, complex dosing function, batch totalization, tolerance control, etc. – we supply the appropriate electronics. Our overview of the various standard evaluation electronics and controllers for scales provides guidance.

Our focus in the development of weighing components is on reliability, high measuring accuracy, and an optimal price-performance ratio. We develop customized controllers for special requirements.
